Intensities
yesterday’s news about Melissa
watching, feeling, experiencing everything arise
stay, change and transform…
Refuge, sangha support
holding one another
collective energy, presence
collective compassion bigger than
our collective suffering
A friend shared about his student
in poetry class, a newly born father of three weeks,
dying…
and another sangha friend, witnessing
the injustice of how her co-workers are treated
courageously touching another’s suffering
breathing and holding, touching and transforming
these intense moments
setting our intentions
taking refuge in our praktis
in tension

The gateways

see
clearly the gateways
that invite our complete awakened Being to arise
the signposts that remind us
to continue on our path

A ZEN STORY
A monk once asked the Chinese Zen master Hui-hai, “What is the gate of Zen practice?” Hui-hai answered, “Complete giving.”

Entering
Fully
do not be afraid to give your life
for the final cause
on the road to 2012
rejoice

To renounce:
Renouncing is not simply the act of giving up
or being self-sacrificing
(How quickly our self-cherishing mind fights back when we here this word!)
To renounce is to take a stand
against suffering and the causes of suffering
to stand as a “community of resistance” against
the ways of thinking and acting that destroy Life
To renounce that which does not serve…
And simultaneously, to turn ourselves in the direction
of learning, praktising, experimenting
experiencing and embracing more fully
and consciously that which brings about
the causes of true inner and outer peace,
freedom, joy and happiness…
To renounce is to have one-pointed
one-hearted
fearless
confidence
in going
towards the direction of
protecting Life
and living in such a way
that makes Life possible for All.

Dharma has to be in you.
You can be in Dharma,
but is Dharma inside of you?

I may think I have entered the Gateway,
but is the Gateway really inside of me?
Entering the Gateway
Becoming the Gateway
11 Year
Mastery, Activation, Graduation
Walking towards the Gateway
…taking the path to enter the Gateway
…what happens at this moment of Entering?
Is there anticipation?
Or is there certainty and clarity?
Both?
What was the motivation to enter?
What was the intention to enter?
Am I waiting for something to happen?
Or has it already happened?
Who is the ONE that is entering?
Who is the ONE that has entered?
Who enters?

THE REFUGE, THE GATEWAY
I take refuge not only in the “outer” Three Jewels–those beings who are Buddhas or Sangha and the Dharma in their mindstreams–but I also take refuge in the “inner” Three Jewels–the Buddha, Dharma and Sangha that I will become in the future. Because I have the Buddha potential within me at this very moment and will always have this potential as an inseparable part of my mind, the outer Three Jewels will act as the cause for me to be transformed into the resultant inner Three Jewels.

THE FRUIT OF ONE’S REFUGE
I celebrate the ripening of your praktis friend
the inner flowers blossoming
the fragrance of freedom and clarity
the flame of inner awareness
and outer action
loving kindness and skillfulness
circulating deep within
your diamantine, indestructible, eternal self
in breath and out breath…
soul self determination realizations and activations
in…
out…
refuge and praktis
love and fearlessness
transformation and offering
three jewels

Remembering: Joyful Completions
May 16, 2009
Joyful completions
…another year around the Sun
…the school year is ending
…the gateway has emerged
…upon entering, something will begin
and something will end
the continuation of all that is
even in the passing, we interbe
…welcoming the new that is emergin’ for me to see
emerge~n~(((B)))
…with this in breath and out breath
Joyful Completion
a cycle of life force and the One witnessing
all that is my Life — how is it that I sit with myself?
What am I still displeased about?
What tensions do I hold in my being?
Disappointments? Graspings? Aversions? Jealousies?
Joyful Completions. Begin Anew, again and again and again…
Joyful completions
Several years back, the Energy of Joyful Completion visited me
in the form of changing schools. Last year, Joyful Completion visited me
in the form of being “laid off” from work due to the state and national budget crisis. This year, amongst other moments, Joyful Completion visits me again, guiding to me close the school year with my students and prepare myself for the Experience of graduating again, differently. Joyful Completion.

Joyful Completions
As if I am working…as if I am not working…
there is space enough inside of me
wisdom, guidance and love enough inside of me
wisdom, guidance and love enough around me
to release and feel the Joy of Completion
and New Beginnings…
you are the farmer
you are the field
tend to your land
and grow your freedom
